School Lunches

My friend Jolene has started this Monster Munchies meme. It was perfect timing since I had just gotten these awesome Easy Lunch Boxes and was planning on blogging about what I packed for the kids each week anyway.
I got all 5 colors of lunchbag coolers (one for each kid plus one for Jamie) and two sets of four of the boxes/lids themselves. I’ve ended up packing lunches for me and my dad this week as well. My mom’s been out of town, but I’m planning on making on for her each day starting this coming week as well.

I decided to pack lunches even though we homeschool because lunch had become a “find whatever you can” sort of thing and the kids were complaining. Plus the big two have wanted lunchboxes forever. They have been so incredibly happy with the lunches this week. I just love the nice stack of lunchboxes I put in my refrigerator each evening all ready for packing in the coolers the next day.

In the morning I put each lunch in a little cooler along with an ice pack, a bottle of water (that we refill), and some snacks for the to eat during the day. They are only allowed to eat the snacks in their coolers with very few exception (such as popcorn, frozen treats, etc.).

So this week’s lunches…
Monday

Ritz and cornbread crackers with sliced pepperoni, summer sausage, colby jack cheeese, and mozzarella cheese
sliced strawberries and blueberries
yogurt sundae (half a container of berry yogurt topped with golden raisins, mini chocolate chips, and marshmallows)
Tuesday

Meatloaf Muffin (from Rachael Ray’s Cooking Rocks for Kids), Bob’s Red Mill 8 Grain Muffins (from the back of the grain mix package), goldfish
strawberries
blueberries
Wednesday

turkey and provolone cheese rolled in a whole wheat wrap and cut into little pinwheels, goldfish
carrot sticks
hummus (I just puree a can of garbanzo beans and a clove of garlic with some salt and lemon juice to taste, plus a bit of water to make it the right consistency)
Thursday

chicken quesadilla wedges on whole wheat tortillas with salsa in the little cup to dip them in
vanilla pudding with mini chocolate chips mixed in and topped with rainbow sprinkles
Friday

turkey and provolone sandwiches on whole wheat bread cut into hearts
mini string cheese
grape tomatoes and sliced green peppers
mandarin oranges
The kids were thrilled with having their lunches all packed and ready for them each day. It took a whole lot of stress off me to have them prepared the night before, too. I never had to worry about stopping school to make lunch before everyone got too hungry. We could just eat as soon as we got to a good pausing spot. I’m so glad I got these lunchboxes! They are totally awesome!

Your sister in law Jeanne referred to your blog on school lunches. They used to live down the street from us in Winter Park.
I love your lunch ideas. My girls are not really sandwich girls. I have a question, where did you find those containers with compartments? I have looked for something like that, but have not found any.
Thanks for posting your ideas!

I’m glad my ideas can help
I got the containers from http://www.easylunchboxes.com We love them! Ziploc makes something similar, but they are super flimsy. These are nice and sturdy and really hold up nicely.

Thanks for posting. I have been considering buying these but thought would it be worth it for a homeschool. I love your idea of packing lunches for the kids. My 4 yo has turned into a grazer and I am tryng to end it. I think this might be a solution.
